- I'm hoping someone will be able to help with a problem that I've been
- wrestling with for quite some time.
-
- In a nut shell, I can't get trumpet winsock to work.
-
- I'm trying to get this to work on a Pentium 75 MHz machine with 16 megs
- of ram, running under WIN 3.11 (not WFWG), and an older 16 bit Trident
- VGA card. There is a generic add-on I/O card that has two 16550's.
-
- In spite of the fact that I've successfully installed WEB browsing
- software on approximately 30 machines at work, I can't figure out what
- it wrong on my home machine.
-
- The symptoms are as follows;
-
- I can get winsock to dial into my ISP. It logs me on and then there is
- ascii garbage on the screen. I never get to the point where I can bring
- up any of the web browsing software like Mosaic or Netscape. If I leave
- everything alone after trying to log on, I eventually get a message
- telling me that winsock.dll failed to load.
-
- If I try to log on manually using the Manual Login option, I get the
- prompt to login. I type in my user name and password. I can issue all of
- the unix based commands from the prompt. However, as soon as I press
- escape, the ascii garbage appears.
-
- I've tried this with a Courier 14.4, 2 different Microcom 28.8's and the
- results are always the same.
-
- I've tried reinstalling the WINSOCK software but that didn't seem to
- help.
-
- I've also tried other steps, like playing with the settings in WINSOCK
- setup but nothing appears to work.
-
- It should be noted that I use PCPLUS for DOS regularly with both the
- Courier and the Microcom without any difficulties.
-
- I'm open to suggestions.
-
- Thanks in advance,
-
- Derek
